VPN

What is a VPN?

VPN stands for "virtual private network." It's a service that gives you safe and private access to the internet while encrypting your connection. A VPN hides your IP address and location so keeps your online activity private.

Put simply, a VPN is software that ensures a secure connection between your computer and the internet by running your traffic through an encrypted tunnel to a server in a remote location.

VPN's are commonly used by companies with employees who work from home. When you connect to a VPN through it's app or desktop software, your VPN encrypts your internet connection keeping your data safe.

Can I use my work VPN with my BeFibre broadband?

Yes, you can use a work VPN with your BeFibre Broadband. Some VPN's do work better with a Static IP address as the company may require a fixed IP for it to work.

If that's the case, don't worry we do provide a Static IP as an additional service for just £4 per month. Find out more about our Static IP here Static IP – BeFibre Help Centre (zendesk.com)

Why does it say I'm using a VPN when I'm not?

From time to time customers can face challenges with certain websites. Trying to enter a website and getting this error message?

"Your device is connected to the internet using a VPN or proxy service. Please disable it and try again."

All our IP addresses are registered in the UK, but this can sometimes be caused by your IP address not being recognised as being in the UK.

Although it may show your IP is in a different country we can assure you all of our IP addresses are registered as being in the UK, which you can check here https://www.iplocation.net/

Our friendly team should be able to resolve this pretty easily, just give us a call and one of the team will look into it for you.

The team are available on 0330 088 83 83, Monday to Friday: 8.30am to 6pm and Saturday 8.30am to 1pm
